- The Ceremony, The Venue
Firstly and most importantly – don’t rush, take your time and be specific with your requirements.
Make a comprehensive list of everything that is important to you both!
When you find something suitable, find out if you :
- Can you legally be married there – do they hold an up to date licence?
If so you need to make an appointment with the Rector or Registrar to book the Ceremony, when you are happy with your choice. If this is not where you live you need to contact the local Registrar and pass on your relevant details. This needs to be done by both of you. - If the Wedding and /or reception is to take place outside, what happens if it rains? Do they have an alternative for you, are you happy with it?
- Is the Venue easy to find, can you make a suitable map?
- Does it have the capacity for the guests you would like to invite, including all those with evening invitations?
- Is there enough parking and is there suitable access for pushchairs, wheelchairs and elderly guests.
- Is there overnight accommodation on site or near, suitable for you and your guests to stay?
- Do they provide catering, or are you able to use your own caterers?
- Do they have enough tables, chairs, crockery, cutlery and glassware?
- Do they hold a licence for alcohol?
- Do you have to buy drink from them or can you buy your own to give to your guests? Ask about Corkage charges if you are able to buy your own.
- Are they licensed for music and what facilities do they have for the band to change. What restrictions if any are in place for setting up and power?
Finally:
- Always look at alternative venues to see what they offer, Before you book.
- Ask friends for their recommendations.
- Look carefully at the booking form and make sure you have booked all the areas /rooms you require and also check availability for the time needed.
- Will you have exclusive use of the building, or will there be another function in another room? If so will this be a problem to you?
- Visit the venue during the day and if possible at the time you want to hold your wedding, just to see what is going on around you. It could very busy with shoppers or people going to a football match!
- Is this what you both want – are you both happy with this choice?
If so pay the deposit and relax a while!
